Did you know the city of Wheaton Illinois was incorporated in 1859?Did you know the city of Wheaton Illinois was founded somewhere between 1831 and 1837?
The Wheaton brothers were from Connecticut and traveled to this area and in 1837 Warren L. Wheaton claimed 640 acres. His brother Jesse Wheaton later claimed 300 acres a little bit west of Warren's. The population in 1860 was a whopping 645 people and had less than 10,000 people as late as 1949. Then between 1960 and 2000 it more than doubled in size from 24,312 to 55,416. What's surprising is between 2000 and 2019(est) the population shrunk in size by nearly 5%. Go figure. |
Did you know the Dempster Brothers patented the dumpster in 1935?Did you know that originally the dumpster was patented by the Dempster Brothers in 1935? Well it was and they did.1936 was the first year that the word "dumpster" was used commercially. When patented in 1936 it was referred to as the Dempster-Dumpster system of mechanically loading containers into garbage trucks.
It looks like the Dempster Brothers combined their name with the word dump and the Dempster-Dumpmaster was born. The word dumpster is used as a generalized term even though over the years there have been three trademarks associated with dumpster. None of the three trademarks are active today. |
